Claims Handling

Griffin’s specialist team has a long history of successfully defending professional indemnity claims against insurance professionals.

The claims team handles claims across the world including the UK, the USA, Hong Kong, Singapore, Europe and Australia. The team has considerable experience representing Members at mediations in many different jurisdictions. It also has experience of successfully managing claims to trial both in the UK and elsewhere. This includes jury trial in the USA.

The aim is to defend Members’ claims to completely successful outcomes. Where that is not possible, the aim is to settle claims on the most beneficial terms available. This is achieved by using our experience and skills to proactively manage claims and any litigation. Members are encouraged to contact the claims team at the earliest opportunity because prompt advice can often be key to a successful outcome. We will travel to the Member’s office, whether it be in the UK or elsewhere, if that is necessary, to advise on and/or collate key information regarding the conduct of a defence.

When it is necessary to instruct external lawyers, the claims team maintains direct control of those lawyers so the approach remains focused on how to achieve a successful outcome for the Member and the Association. Legal costs are also monitored and effectively controlled.

The claims team liaises closely with the Member throughout the whole process and is alert to the Member’s commercial interests in the way claims are handled.
