Governance

The Griffin Insurance Association Limited is a non-profit making mutual insurance association registered in the United Kingdom (Company No. 2134231) and incorporated as a company limited by guarantee.  It is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority (“PRA”) and is regulated by the PRA and the Financial Conduct Authority (“FCA”), reference number 202720.  You can check this on the Financial Services Register or by telephoning 0845 606 1234.

Griffin is a soundly financed insurance company and buys reinsurance cover from Lloyd’s and company markets with all reinsurers rated a minimum of “A” or equivalent.  The underwriting strategy of Griffin is to underwrite on a conservative basis, and to maintain a prudent level of reserves, in excess of regulatory requirements.

Griffin is managed by an independent firm of specialist mutual managers – Tindall Riley & Co Limited, trading as Griffin Managers.  Tindall Riley & Co Limited is authorised and regulated by the FCA to carry out insurance mediation activities and its FCA Register number is 600356.  You can check this on the Financial Services Register or by telephoning 0845 606 1234.

The Board of Directors of Griffin is its main decision-making body and comprises a maximum of 12 Directors, of whom nine are elected from the Membership, two are appointed from Griffin Managers and one is an independent Chairman.  Each Member firm is entitled and encouraged to nominate one of its directors to be its Representative on Griffin’s other body, the Committee.  The Committee meets at least twice a year when it receives reports on major decisions made by the Board and is given the opportunity to express its view.
